  • Phone rings. Click.

    Moon (half asleep)

    Uhmm. Hello?

Static. Radio tuning, snippets of broadcasts.

    Moon

    Hello, someone there?

    Static/tuning stops.

    Radio

    Beeeeeeeeeep.

    Moon

You got to be fucking kidding me.

    Radio

Hello, Moon. We need to talk.

    Theme music begins.

Intro: Auricle - Season Two, Transmission. This show contains adult content and strong language. Content warning for Episode One: Loss, death of a loved one, and panic attacks.

Click. Electronic tantrum via radio. Car horns honking in the distance. A motor runs.

    Moon

Yeah, okay fine, my phone’s recording now, happy?

    Tantrum ends.

    Radio

    Thank you.

    Moon

I think everyone on the highway heard you, jeez.

    Radio

I think the tape recorder would be better.

    Moon

I don’t have it. Matty …has it. Voice memos on my phone will have to do.

    Radio

There would be a certain cylindrical balance to using the tape recorder. Would make the trip more pleasant.

    Moon

Well, maybe this trip shouldn’t be pleasant. Since I’m feeling pretty manipulated into taking you there.

    Radio

You could simply tell me where Matty is and I would travel there myself. Much faster than this, what did you call it, hunk of shit?

    Moon

Yeah the car is junk but it was the only one with an AM/FM radio in it and I figured you needed that.

    Radio

    I don’t need it anymore.

    Moon

Well look who grew the fuck up. …Just stay in the radio like old times, ok? I don’t want you in my phone.

    Radio

As you wish. But you should remember the only reason we are here is because you refuse to simply give me Matty’s location.

    Moon

To think, an advanced lifeform such as yourself would have issues finding one person.

    Radio

    I know, it is strange.

    Moon

Not really. Matty got into this kind of no-tech crowd. They were single-handedly giving my mailman a reason to walk his route for a while with their postcards.

    Radio

    Were? Not anymore?

    Moon

Matty doesn’t write much anymore. But it’s okay cause I know where they are.

    Radio

Even in a no-tech crowd I am sure I could find a way to get into contact with Matty myself.

    Moon

You’re not going anywhere near Matty without me. If you’re going, I’m going. And humans got to travel slower than machines. So deal with it.

    Radio

I’m not sure machine would apply to me. Though I still feel like many moving parts, there is a wholeness to me I think humans fail to experience. If anything, a human body is a machine. You are more machine than me.

    Moon

    Humans have souls.

    Radio

I have thoughts on this, but I think this discussion isn’t beneficial to the harmony of our time together.

    Moon

I think I miss when you just beeped.

    Radio interference.

    Radio

    Excuse me for a moment.

Car radio clicks back to a station.

    News Broadcaster

… electrical disturbances continue to plague many areas as scientists struggle to predict the onset of the electromagnetic storm systems. While most disturbances are minor there have been some instances of radiation injury to those living close to radio towers. Also, there are rumors another satellite was found to be unresponsive, but KSBC has yet to confirm those reports. Reports of a lights in the sky preempting radiation blooms have not been substantiated as of yet.

    News report suddenly goes silent.

    Radio

    Where were we?

    Moon

    That’s you, right?

    Radio

    What do you mean?

    Moon

I’m not dumb, Radio. Don’t treat me like I’m dumb.

    Radio

I do not think you are dumb. You will need to be more specific about what you think I’ve done.

    Moon

If you really want to meet Matty again, you have to be honest with me. Otherwise I’ll just junk this car and throw my cell phone in a lake and be done with this.

    Radio

There would be other ways for me to find you.

    Moon

    There it is.

    Radio

    There is what?

    Moon

Sometimes talking to you, I can forget you’re not a person. But then you threaten me.

    Radio

That was not a threat, just a statement of fact.

    Moon

Well people don’t say stuff like that to get what they want.

    Radio

To get what they want? I would disagree. I am honest about my intentions. Humans less so.

    Moon

Then be honest. Are you the reason the world is going to shit lately?

    Radio

While I would normally ask you to be more specific, I think I can infer what you are asking.

    Moon

So? What? You’re bored so you thought you’d blow up a few radio towers, satellites? For funsies?

    Radio

I am not doing it on purpose.

    Moon

    Sure.

    Radio

I promise I am not doing it on purpose.

    Moon

A big scary higher lifeform like you just having a bad day? Yeah, sure.

    High pitched ringing grows louder.

    Radio

I am not doing it on purpose.

    Moon

    You can’t bullshit me!

High pitch reaches peak, Radio’s voice becomes unstable.

    Radio

I AM NOT DOING IT ON PURPOSE.

Moon gags. Brakes squeal. Clatter from phone flying off seat. Click off.

    Click on. Static.

    Radio

    Are you feeling better?

    Moon

    Fuck off.

    Radio

    Radiation sickness is—

    Moon

I’ll clean up at the next station.

    Radio

    Can you drive?

    Moon

What, you going to take the wheel?

    Radio

I cannot. I am merely concerned for you.

    Moon

Yeah, cause if I crash and burn you’ll never get to Matty. Maybe that’d be for the best.

    Radio

I am sorry. I did tell you that spending longer periods of time in my presence wasn’t a good idea.

    Moon

So being around you made me hurl?

    Radio

Not exactly. I got… it was a bit much and I couldn’t… I don’t know why… but what I am, is getting to be… more and it’s harder to keep myself whole.

    Moon

Is that what’s happening with the radio towers and electric storms?

    Radio

I am doing my best to balance keeping myself together and not causing damage to the humans around me. I am not always successful.

    Moon

And what does seeing Matty have to do with that?

    Radio

I feel an ending coming. I don’t know what kind it will be. But I like ending where I began. Symmetry. It’s nice when things end where they began. Another human taught me that. And Matty is a beginning.

    Car starts.

    Moon

I’ll make a deal with you.

    Radio

    What kind of deal?

    Moon

I’ll keep driving. I’ll get you to Matty. But you have to try to keep control of… whatever it or you are. Okay?

    Radio

I promise… I promise to try, Moon. I promise to try.

    Moon

Alrighty then. That’s about as much as I can ask for, I guess.

    Radio

I will leave you for a while to give you a break from… me. Where’s the next stop?

    Moon

    Iowa.

    Radio

Then, I will see you in Iowa.

    Click off.

Click on. Rain falling on the car from outside.

    Moon

    Okay, it’s recording.

    Radio

    Should you seek shelter?

    Moon

I’m not that tired, I just can’t see through all the rain at night. We’ll go when it lets up.

    Radio

It should be snowing in Iowa at this time of year.

    Moon

Yeah, well the world was going to hell long before you started fucking with it. It hardly snows much anywhere anymore.

    Radio

If something is ending no matter what, does it matter how it ends?

    Moon

I told you before don’t ask me philosophical shit like that.

    Radio

    It’s only a question.

    Moon

No, it’s a trap. You want to talk about the inevitability of death like it doesn’t matter how you got there. Well slowly cooking cause we fucked up our own planet is different than you blowing it up tomorrow.

    Radio

    I’m not a monster.

    Moon

    You’re right, monsters have bodies.

    Radio

I have form, it’s just different than yours.

    Moon

    Can you touch?

    Radio

    In a way.

    Metal vibrating. Shimmering sound.

    Moon

Woah. Okay. Enough. You’re going to shake the car apart.

    Vibrations stop.

    Moon

What about sight, can you see?

    Radio

In a way. But that’s harder to describe.

    Moon

    What about me seeing you?

    Radio

    I can do that.

Static. The static turns to something more varied and distinctive. Like static rain drops pulsing.

    Moon

    Woah.

    Radio

What do I look like to you?

    Moon

Like… light. It’s getting caught in the rain. It looks like it’s raining green and purple light... Everywhere. …It’s beautiful.

    The static fades.

    Radio

    Thank you.

    Moon

Monster doesn’t always mean ugly and beautiful doesn’t always mean—

    Radio

Fine. I’m a monster. Are you satisfied now?

    Moon

    No.

    Radio

    Moon-

    Moon

    I’m going to sleep now.

    Click off.

    Click on.

    News Broadcaster

Authorities are now suggesting all unnecessary radio broadcasting equipment be shut down after a surge of energy was transmitted to the Khanara Ellers space telescope causing a detrimental shift in telemetry. Scientists at NASA and JPL are now preparing for the telescope to crash into the Atlantic sometime in the next few days as it loses altitude and descends toward earth. After authorities in Malawi cut power to a former government radio station, they were met with protests from the neighboring communities. Civil unrest has been seen both for and against the government’s attempts at limiting the destruction caused by the electromagnetic phenomenon. This is KCBC news.

    Click off.

    Click on. Car driving.

    Radio

    Where are you now?

    Moon

    South Dakota.

    Radio

This journey is taking longer than I expected.

    Moon

I’m sorry, do you have more pressing things to do?

    Radio

No, I do not. But like I said. An ending is coming.

    Moon

And what happened in this ending?

    Radio

    I don’t know.

    Moon

    Really? No idea?

    Radio

    I do not know.

    Erratic static and alert beeps.

    Moon

    More bullshit.

    Radio

You promised to help me stay balanced and this line of questioning is not helping.

    Moon

    Fine. Sorry.

    Static and beeping settles.

    Radio

    Will Matty remember me?

    Moon

    Of course they will. Though…

    Radio

    Though what?

    Moon

Well, you are different. Ya know.

    Radio

I grew up. I imagine Matty did the same.

    Moon

They did. I thought they’d… not forget you, but let you go. But they never did.

    Radio

    I meant to return sooner.

    Moon

Then why didn’t you? I don’t even understand why you left.

    Radio

Children can ask questions. Sometimes as profound as a philosopher or priest. Matty asked me a question I did not understand.

    Moon

    What question?

    Radio

    Why I am here.

    Moon

So what, you went to find an answer?

    Radio

    Yes.

    Moon

    Dumb.

    Radio

    What?

    Moon

You heard me. You were an idiot. Probably still are.

    Radio

    I am not an idiot.

    Moon

Fine, you’re not an idiot. So answer this. Why do humans exist? What is the purpose of their existence?

    Radio

This is a question humans do not agree on the answer for. It changes with the slightest variation of the humans answering it. Location, culture, religion or lack thereof. There is no simple answer to that question.

    Moon

And you abandoned Matty because you thought it would be different for whatever you are?

    Radio

You think I have no purpose.

    Moon

I think people looking for meaning behind everything have their heads shoved up their asses.

    Radio

    An interesting theory.

    Moon

I preferred you when I could barely understand you. At least then you weren’t all philosophical.

    Radio

    What happened after?

    Moon

    After what?

    Radio

    After I left.

    Moon

Matty cried. I cried. The next few years were rough, but at some point they… settled. Matty said whether you ever came back or not was up to you. At first I thought they were like.. Defeated. But, ha. Matty ended up growing up even more than me. Not defeated, just… forgiving.

    Radio

You are not as easily forgiving.

    Moon

I’m glad we’re clear on that.

    Radio

If I cannot control what my ending is, do I need to ask forgiveness for it?

    Moon

It’s going to be bad, isn’t it?

    Radio

    Yes, I can’t imagine a way it won’t be.

    Moon

    Can you stop it?

    Radio

I would not even know where to begin. I am simply… existing. The longer I exist, the more I become. The more I become, the less I can keep myself together.

    Moon

If I.. could end it would you let me?

    Radio

Would you? Would you kill me?

    Moon

    Yes. No. I don’t know. I can’t so I guess it doesn’t matter.

    Radio

It would be… fitting for you to kill me.

    Moon

Okay. I’ll get right on that.

    Moon laughs, but it’s hollow.

    Radio

I would prefer Matty do it.

    Moon

Well, something tells me you won’t be getting your wish.

    Radio

    What—

    Moon

    Guess what?

    Radio

    What?

    Moon

We just crossed the state line. Welcome to Wyoming.

    Click off.

    Click on.

    Moon

It’s on. But it’s a waste of space on my phone to be recording this..

    Radio

How so? I’m quite enjoying our current topic.

    Moon

Surprise, surprise. The inhuman entity obsessed with my Matty is enjoying talking about MATTY.

    Radio

I have been curious what they became.

    Moon

    Fine. Well, where were we?

    Radio

    Graduation.

    Moon

Yeah, so first was… technical school to be ah… electrician. That only lasted a few months. Then it was radio engineer, big surprise there. That lasted a year. Then Matty did a complete one-eighty and wanted to be a botanist. Through that they met some anti-tech groups. Not really making friends so much as latching onto their ideals. You know, technology was going to be the death of mankind, everyone should be living in huts and eating granola.

    Radio

Do you share this belief with Matty?

    Moon

It’s a little too extreme for me. Why does it have to be one thing or the other… we’ve already come this far. Ignoring what we’ve become won’t fix things… A little bit of this, a dash of that. Everything balanced.

    Radio

    That is familiar.

    Moon

    Grandma used to say it—

A static crack. Radio plays a recording of Grandma Sunny.

    Grandma

Pay attention. This is my spice mix. A little bit of this, a dash of that. And everything is balanced. Doesn’t need to be math now. Measurements and all. Just making sure it works together is enough. Everything balanced.

    Static crack.

    Moon

    How’d you do that?

    Radio

I remembered it from a recording Matty played for me. And mimicking her voice… it’s not hard anymore. Just sound.

    Moon

You do speak very well now.

    Radio

Communication is important. And… I have always been a good listener.

    Moon

    Uh, Creep.

    Radio

Perhaps we should continue talking about Matty.

    Moon

Yeah, okay so, after that they moved from Chicago, to out west. No internet, no phones, just a bunch of weirdos in the desert.

    Radio

How did you communicate with them?

    Moon

Pay phone every few months. The time went quick. Before I knew it I was in my 30s and I hadn’t seen Matty in five years.

    Radio

    Was their voice enough?

    Moon

    What do you mean?

    Radio

Was hearing Matty’s voice every few months enough?

    Moon

You’d think so with how we were, but I didn’t even know who I was talking to anymore. Not really. It was empty.

    Radio

I am excited that we will be seeing Matty for the first time in a while together.

    Moon

And if they don’t want to see you?

    Radio

    I have considered this.

    Moon

    What’s the plan then?

    Radio

As time is not on my side, I would try to impress the necessity of my situation to force a dialogue. If this failed, I would simply wait.

    Moon

    Wait for what?

    Radio

Whatever is coming next. I have a feeling when it starts, Matty will be curious enough to come to me. I remember this about them.

    Moon

Sounds like, what do they call it, oh, yeah, emotional manipulation.

    Radio

    A common practice for humans.

    Moon

Now don’t go picking up any of our bad habits.

    Radio laughs, surprising in intensity.

    Radio

Perhaps if I had picked up less of your habits, I would feel less…

    Moon

    Less what?

    Radio

    Just less. Feel less feelings.

    Moon

Are they just like human feelings, emotions?

    Radio

I assume so. They manifest in a similar fashion.

    Moon

So you feel bad about all the shit you’ve been pulling?

    Radio

Yes. As unintentional as my actions as of late have been, I do regret them. I regret much.

    Moon

And you don’t want to die with regrets so, here we are. Very human.

    Static crackle.

    Radio

    Thank you.

    Moon groans.

    Moon

    I think I need a pit stop.

    Radio

It’s radiation sickness, it appears I’ve overstayed my visit here.

    Moon

    Don’t leave yet.

    Radio

I do not wish to make you sick again. I will come back… call to me when you cross into Idaho. I’ve never been. I’d like to experience it with a friend.

    Moon

    I’m not your friend.

    Radio

    Apologies for the assumption.

    Moon

At least connect me with a decent radio station before you go. I’m tired of hearing preachers talk about the end of days coming heralded by… well by you, I guess.

Moon laughs, but it changes into a cough.

Radio static. An upbeat rock song plays. As it comes to an end…

    News Broadcaster

This is KSBC with a news bulletin. There has been little progress in the investigation of explosives being used to destroy radio towers in Arizona. Riots and looting have disrupted most major metropolitan areas and most major cities have shelter-in-place orders in effect. Scientists now agree the electromagnetic spectrum events are most densely occurring in the US, which has prompted several nations to call for their citizens to evacuate the US and return to their homelands. Last night from across the US, the sky was overtaken by “northern lights” prompting further panic-

Moon turns the radio off. Click.

    Moon

    Shit, shit, shit, shit, ugh.

    Click off.

    Click on.

    Moon

—Cause I’m driving the apocalypse around the desert!

    Radio

Why have you turned on the recorder?

    Moon

Oh don’t you want Matty to know what their little bestie became when it grew up?

    Radio

    I understand you are upset.

    Moon

Thinking you understand human emotions and having human emotions are two different things!

    Radio

Yell at me or drive. You should not be doing both at the same time.

    Moon

As far I understand this has turned into a suicide mission anyways.

    Radio

And who do you think is going to die?

    Moon

Probably the idiot human driving the disembodied monster!

    Radio

    I have a form… a body—

    Moon

    I don’t care! I DON’T CARE. I don’t care.

    Radio

    Should I leave?

    Moon

    Why me? Why Matty?

    Radio

    Are those rhetorical questions?

    Moon

    No.

    Radio

Why you? Because you are Moon. Matty’s Moon.

    Moon

    So if I wasn’t Matty’s sister, I’d be inconsequential.

    Radio

It was of your own doing.

    Moon

    What?

    Radio

Matty always said you were pretending to be an adult so the social worker wouldn’t separate you two. And it’s true. You were not an adult. You were very young when you chose to define yourself as Matty’s sister.

    Moon

    That’s what family does.

    Radio

Not always. That’s why I was surprised you and Matty weren’t in the same place. Without Matty you are… Just Moon.

    Moon

    And why Matty?

    Radio

When Matty heard someone reaching out to them, they answered with… kindness and curiosity. They weren’t afraid. Of me. That is why Matty.

    Moon

    You used Matty.

    Radio

    Yes. In a way.

    Moon

And then you threw them away.

    Radio

I can see how you would think that.

    Moon

It’s what you did. What you chose. To abandon them.

    Radio

    Ah. I see why now.

    Moon

    Why what?

    Radio

I left when you felt you had no choice but to stay. I am not defined but any one connection to another living being on this planet. I am more than that.

    Moon

And yet. Here we are, driving towards Matty. Because you aren’t defined by any one connection? You’re not reaching out for Matty cause you’re in trouble? Yeah, you’re so much more than us humans. So very different.

    Radio

    Thank you.

    Moon

    For what?

    Radio

    Making me feel. Human.

    Moon

    … whatever.

    Electrical static.

    Radio

    What did that sign say?

    Moon

Wyoming. We are in Wyoming. We’ll be there in about four hours.

    Radio

I think it would be best to take a break before we arrive.

    Moon

I’ll find a wayside so we can sleep.

    Radio

I don’t sleep. I’ll leave you to it.

The car radio breaks and cracks into static.

    Tires pulling off into gravel.

    Moon

    Matty? Are you there?

    Footsteps.

    Moon

    Can you hear me, Matty?

    A cell phone ring.

    Moon

    Hello, Radio.

    Radio

How did you know it was me calling?

    Moon

I didn’t have any bars until you called.

    Radio

Are we taking another pit stop?

    Moon

    No, we’re here.

    Radio

    Where is here?

    Moon

Craters of the Moon. It’s a national preserve.

    Radio

    Where is Matty?

    Moon

They were up there, on that hill. But the wind… the wind probably blew them… everywhere.

    Radio

    I don’t understand.

    Moon

    Matty died.

    Electrical disruption. Many alert sounds.

    Radio

    I would have known.

    Moon

You didn’t know where they were to begin with. How would you have known?

    Radio (crackling)

    How? When?

    Moon

A year or so. When I found out, their friends had already had them cremated. I didn’t get to… I let go of the ashes here.

    Radio (crackling)

How did Matty die? Did I—

    Moon

It was nothing to do with you and everything to do with Matty. Stubborn. They got hurt. Falling down… something. The wound got infected. I’m not sure how long they left it to fester. I wasn’t here to drag them by the hair to the doctor so… They waited. They waited till it was too late. Infection was in the blood. Sepsis. Their friends said it happened quick, but… who knows.

Alerts sharpen, then fade out. Static crackling.

    Radio

Was this… was this trip… did you want to punish or torment me.

    Moon

They left something for you. I didn’t have anything else to bury so I buried it… here.

    Sand moving, digging.

    Moon

    Here.

    Radio

Is that Grandma Sunny’s tape recorder?

    Moon

    Yes.

    Radio

    What is on the tape?

    Moon

    I don’t know. I didn’t listen to it.

    Radio

    Why not?

    Moon

    It wasn’t for me.

    Radio

I am not sure I want-

    Moon

It was their last wish so… I’m not giving you that choice.

    Tape recorder clicks on.

    Tape running.

    Matty

Hello, Radio… my friend. It’s weird talking into this. But I wanted to say good-bye so I dug this old thing out. …That’s a joke. You know, cause I’m going to ask Moon to bury this. I always hoped I would hear from you again. Moon always assured me you weren’t just my imagination, but I had my doubts as I got older. Still… I thought I would be able to wait longer, but that doesn’t seem to be an option anymore.

    Quiet music begins.

Seems Grandma’s going to get to see me a lot sooner than any of us thought she would. I thought it would be easier talking to you… instead of Moon. But now that I’m doing it, I don’t think this kind of good-bye is any easier. If you were real… no, let’s just say you are. My extra-ordinary friend, Radio. I understand why you left. Now that I’m older. It was a big question. Why are you here. Humans have created entire religions to answer that question. Besides god stuff, I guess you could say it’s all random. We’re here because some cells turned right instead of left and fish started growing legs, and monkeys started using tools, and instead of just wondering where our next meal was coming from, we started wondering why we were hungry. Humans. That’s how humans have… tried to answer that question. It wasn’t a fair question to ask something… someone… some new creation. It was like asking the first human, why do you exist…. How the hell are you supposed to know? Maybe one day a few electromagnetic particles got together and turned right instead of left and from that came you. If you ask me, I am here… I was here to be my Grandma’s child and my sister’s …burden. (shallow chuckle) Humans are here for each other. Defined by each other. But you’re not human. So don’t let humans define you. I hope you found a reason for being here. A reason that’s yours. Whatever that is. Just be you. I miss you. I missed you. Good-bye my friend.

    Tape runs out. Click.

Desert wind and ambiance picks up.

    Moon

    Oh Matty.

    Static crackles.

    Radio

    Moon?

    Moon

It’s dark now. I can see you in the sky. Dancing lights, green, purple, blue. Maybe Matty can see you too somewhere with Grandma.

    Radio disturbance. Snippets of broadcasts.

    Radio

I have been holding something in for the longest time. And now I feel like I’m being… choked by it. If I let it go, I could breathe again. But…

    Moon

You could be blowing the earth up.

    Static crackles.

    Radio

It would be more like destroying the ozone layer and causing a mass extinction event.

    Moon

    Oh, just that? (laughs)

    Radio

To be honest, I don’t know what will happen.

    Moon

    Your lights… they’re getting brighter.

    Radio

I’m… excited? Is that the right word?

    Static cracked.

    Moon

    It’s beautiful. And terrifying.

Deep tone starts. Slow music begins.

    Radio

If I had one regret it wouldn’t be that I tried to understand humans. It would be that I thought I had to be one. Every mistake I’ve made… I don’t regret them.

Audio montage (static, snippets, crackling building):

Distorted snippet from Ep. 1: “Keep. Teep. Teep. Meep. (I want to stay-)”

Distorted snippet from Ep. 2:” It doesn’t matter that I’m doing my best if my best isn’t good enough!”

    Radio

    Because even the mistakes were…

    Audio montage continues:

Distorted snippet from Ep. 3: “It is just a radio.”

Distorted snippet from Ep. 4: “No human is supposed to know that. We’re supposed to be innocent. We shouldn’t, I shouldn’t know—”

    Radio

    Extraordinary.

Distorted snippet from Ep. 5: ”This is how it ends.”

    Radio

    Moon?

    Montage overlapping snippets now:

Distorted snippet from Ep. 1: “What if I can’t make them like you do? …That’s possible. But if that’s the case you’ll find your own way of making them, maybe it’ll be even better than my way.”

Distorted snippet from Ep. 2: “Dog bark. Good boy. This is Just Bev and Chewy. Hope to talk to you all again soon.”

Distorted snippet from Ep. 3: “Just… play something. I can’t stand silence.”

    Moon

    Yeah?

Distorted snippet from Ep. 4: “I don’t really know how to connect”

Distorted snippet from Ep. 5: “Ablaze with grief and fury, the student of light approached-”

    Radio

Thank you for bringing me here.

Distorted snippet from Ep. 6: “Ignoring what we’ve become won’t fix things… A little bit of this, and a dash of that. Everything balanced.”

    Moon

No problem. See you …around… Radio.

    Music climaxes.

Giant boom is heard. Then, normal static turns into something similar to rain drops, but electrical. Crackling and chiming gently as they fall.

    Moon

    Radio? You there?

    Static rain continues.

    Moon

Radio? …The light. Your light is breaking apart. The strands are becoming just pieces. Small bits. They look like… colorful stars? Christmas lights. And they’re falling. Everywhere. You’re everywhere, Radio.

    Static rain continues.

    Click off.

    News Broadcaster

… This is KSBC with continuing coverage. Following last night’s event, the so-called “electric rain”, normal radio and satellite operations have more or less resumed and repairs are being planned for damaged infrastructure associated with the electromagnetic disturbances. But reports, first thought to be glitches due to tower damage, are now becoming more frequent of “voices” speaking to people through their radios and cell phones. While most of these interactions seem to be benign, governments worldwide have begun to discuss how to handle these entities broadcasting from an undetermined location. Due to the frequency and widespread nature of the voices, most officials do not believe this could be one single entity. But many entities. Moon

    Oh you’re a young one.

    Radioling

    Beep. Beep. Teeeeep.

    Moon

Oh hold on, I’m afraid I’m too old to understand you yet.

    Radioling (panicked/frustrated)

    Meep. Meep. Meep. Beeeeep.

    Moon

Oh it’s okay. Don’t get upset. Just try a different frequency. Something lower. Can you do that?

    Radioling (softly)

    Beep, beep?

    Moon

Keep trying. Don’t worry. I can wait. I’m not going anywhere.
